When people call our office, they usually talk to me first. I’m Marisol, and I started Bluebonnet Ridge Painting in 2012. But once a job is booked, the person you’ll see most is Owen Callahan. Owen leads our in-house crews, and every job we do runs through him.

I want to introduce him properly, because he’s a big part of why our work holds up and why our customers keep calling us back.

Why We Keep Every Crew In-House

Before I started this company, I spent ten years as a commercial painting foreman. I saw a lot of jobs handed off to subcontractors who’d never met the customer and never would again. Sometimes the work was fine. Sometimes it wasn’t. Either way, nobody on site really owned the result.

When I started Bluebonnet Ridge, I made a simple rule: no subcontractors. Every painter who works on your home or business works for us. They’re trained in our process, covered by our workers’ comp and accountable to us.

That rule only works if someone is responsible for every crew on every job. That someone is Owen.

What Owen Actually Does

Owen’s job title is crew lead, but here’s what that looks like on a typical project.

He runs the prep. Our whole approach is prep-first. On an exterior, that means pressure washing, scraping loose paint, caulking open joints and priming bare spots before a drop of topcoat goes on. Inside, it means patching, sanding, priming repairs and protecting floors and furniture. Owen makes sure every step in your written scope actually happens, in the right order, and isn’t rushed. If you want to know why we care so much about this part, our guide on why surface prep matters explains it.

He’s your point of contact on site. If you have a question during the job, or want to change something, you talk to Owen. He knows what’s in your quote, what’s been done and what’s next.

He keeps the site clean. Daily cleanup is part of every job we do. Owen makes sure tools are put away, walkways are cleared and rooms you need are usable at the end of each day. You shouldn’t have to step around paint cans at night.

He does the final walkthrough. At the end of every job, Owen walks the house or space with you. You point out anything that isn’t right, and the crew fixes it before they pack up.

What You Can Expect When Owen’s on Your Job

I asked Owen what he’d want every customer to know before his crew shows up. Here’s the gist of what he said, in plain terms.

  • We’ll show up when we say we will. If weather or anything else changes the plan, you’ll hear from us early.
  • We’ll protect your stuff first. Floors, furniture, plants, cars and anything else that isn’t getting painted gets covered before we open a can.
  • We’ll do the boring parts properly. Prep isn’t exciting, but it’s what makes paint last in Texas sun.
  • We’ll tell you if we find something. Rotten trim, a crack that looks structural, a leak behind a stain. You’ll hear about it before anything gets covered up.
  • We’ll leave it clean. Every day, not just the last day.

If you’re comparing painters and want a checklist for what to ask any of them, our guide to questions to ask a painting contractor covers crews, insurance and more.

How the Prep-First Process Plays Out Day to Day

Here’s a quick look at how an exterior job typically flows with Owen running the crew:

StageWhat Owen’s crew does
Day oneProtect plants, walkways and windows. Pressure wash the house.
Prep daysScrape loose paint, sand edges, caulk joints, spot prime bare wood and repairs.
Painting daysTwo finish coats, following the shade around the house.
Each eveningClean up, clear walkways, secure ladders and materials.
Last dayFinal walkthrough with you, touch-ups, full cleanup.

Interior jobs follow the same idea: protect, prep, paint, clean up daily and walk through at the end. Our guide on what to expect during a painting project covers it in more detail.

Why This Matters to You

A painting quote is only as good as the people who show up to do the work. Our fixed written quotes list every prep step, coat and product. Our 3-year workmanship warranty backs it up. But the reason I’m comfortable putting all of that in writing is that I know who’s running the job.

Owen and our crews work across Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Georgetown, Leander, Lakeway and Bee Cave. Whether it’s a full exterior repaint, a few rooms inside, a kitchen full of cabinets or an office painted overnight, the same standards apply.

Say Hi When You See Him

If you’ve already worked with us, you’ve probably met Owen. If you haven’t yet, you will. He’s the one checking tape lines before anyone opens a can of paint, and the last one to leave after the walkthrough.

You can read a little more about both of us on our about page.
